Service Partners

University Research Commercialization Partners

Ventureprise works with many public and private organizations to provide an integrated set of services to innovators and entrepreneurs.  Among the most active are our service partners which are affiliated with UNC Charlotte.  These partners, working closely with Ventureprise, aim to provide specialized services and programming that can take start-ups, innovators and inventors from idea to operation, and from prototype to technology commercialization.

Regionally, CRI works with Ventureprise, the community and the campus to accelerate technology commercialization, and champions the growth of entrepreneurial ventures. Globally, CRI develops intellectual capital through collaborations with industry, government and academia.

The Institute's research centers consist of people and facilities that are thematically aggregated to address complex problems in an interdisciplinary fashion.  CRI offers special expertise through focused centers, including the Center for Precision Metrology, Center for Optoelectronics & Optical Communication, Center for eBusiness Technology, Bioinformatics, as well as many University affiliated programs in Chemistry, Computing and Informatics, Engineering and Nanotechnology.

The CRI is the co-sponsor to Ventureprise’s Charlotte Venture Challenge, sponsor of the Charlotte Biotechnology Conference, and is active in many community programs and seminars.

The UNC Charlotte Technology Transfer Office works with faculty, staff and students at the University to commercialize any Intellectual Property (IP) developed at the University. This office has 4 full time technology transfer staff that have

years of experience in licensing and partnering of technologies. In addition to licensing UNC Charlotte technology to companies, the group helps with Sponsored Research Agreements between external and internal researchers; including companies. The Technology Transfer Office does not assist or manage inventions that are not created at UNC Charlotte.

The office also helps faculty set up their own companies to license their inventions.  Over the last 10 years, more than 36 startup companies have been created based on UNC Charlotte technology. Between 2000 and 2010, UNCC has had 541 new inventions, 449 filed patents, 66 issued patents, 41 technologies transferred to industry.

Ventureprise and UNC work hand in hand.  Ventureprise works with innovators to understand their opportunities and develop their organizations and knowledge, while the UNC Technology Transfer office works one on one with inventors on the business model, commercialization and licensing of the actual IP.
